How It Works?
Consultation & Shade Assessment
Dr Alexa will assess your teeth, explain the teeth whitening treatment process, and record your starting tooth shade to track your whitening progress.Preparation
Your face, gums and lips are protected to ensure only your teeth are exposed during the treatment. A protective barrier is applied to avoid sensitivity or irritation.Application of Whitening Gel
A powerful, professional-grade teeth whitening gel containing hydrogen peroxide is carefully applied to the teeth.LED Light Activation
The Philips Zoom LED lamp is positioned over your teeth to activate the whitening gel. The light accelerates the breakdown of stains, allowing the gel to penetrate deeply and whiten the teeth effectively.Multiple Cycles
The process is repeated in 3-4 cycles, each lasting 15 minutes, depending on your desired shade and sensitivity levels.

Aftercare Advice
To maintain your new bright smile and protect your results, follow these simple aftercare tips for the next 48 hours:
1. Avoid Staining Foods & Drinks
Your teeth are more porous after whitening, so try to avoid:
🚫 Coffee & Tea
🚫 Red Wine
🚫 Dark Fizzy Drinks
🚫 Tomato-based sauces
🚫 Curry
🚫 Berries
🚫 Soy Sauce
🚫 Smoking or Vaping
(If it would stain a white t-shirt, avoid it!)
2. Stick to “White Diet” Foods
Safe options include:
✓ Water
✓ Milk
✓ White Rice
✓ Chicken or Fish
✓ Cauliflower
✓ Pasta with white sauces
✓ Bananas
✓ Plain Yogurt
3. Avoid Extreme Temperatures
Try to avoid very hot or very cold foods & drinks immediately after treatment to reduce sensitivity.
4. Use a Sensitive Toothpaste
Opt for toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth for the next few days to minimise any discomfort.
We recommend Sensodyne Pronamel Toothpaste.
5. Maintain Good Oral Hygiene
Brush twice daily, floss, and use a whitening toothpaste to help maintain results.
For any gum sensitivity, use Bonjela Gel.
6. Avoid Smoking
Smoking can quickly re-stain the teeth after whitening — avoiding it will help keep your results longer.
7. Consider Top-Up Treatments
Whitening results can last months with the right care. Dr Alexa will advise you on when to book a top-up treatment if needed.
Who Should Philips Zoom Teeth Whitening
While Philips Zoom is a safe and effective treatment for most people, there are certain cases where teeth whitening may not be suitable or recommended:
1. Pregnant or Breastfeeding Women
Although there are no proven risks, it is generally advised to avoid whitening treatments during pregnancy or breastfeeding as a precaution.
2. Patients Under 18
Teeth whitening is not recommended for children or teenagers as their teeth are still developing and more prone to sensitivity.
3. Patients with Sensitive Teeth or Gum Issues
If you suffer from:
Severe tooth sensitivity
Gum disease
Receding gums
Tooth decay or cavities
… whitening should be postponed until these issues are treated.
4. People with Dental Restorations
Whitening will not change the colour of:
Veneers
Crowns
Bridges
Composite fillings
This may result in uneven colour if restorations are present in visible areas.
5. Patients with Allergies to Peroxide
As the active ingredient in whitening gel is hydrogen peroxide, those with known allergies should avoid the treatment.
6. Patients with Epilepsy Triggered by Light
Philips Zoom uses an LED lamp during treatment — patients with photosensitive epilepsy (seizures triggered by flashing or bright light) should avoid this treatment.
7. Patients with Certain Dental Conditions
Patients with enamel hypoplasia, exposed dentin, or other structural defects in the teeth may not be suitable candidates.
8. Unrealistic Expectations
Teeth whitening works best on natural teeth and removes surface stains — it won’t make teeth unnaturally white or bleach internal stains like tetracycline staining.
