cosmelan dermamelan London mayfair

Cosmelan and Dermamelan are medical-grade depigmentation treatments designed to effectively reduce stubborn pigmentation, melasma, sun spots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). These world-renowned treatments work by inhibiting melanin production at a cellular level, restoring even skin tone and improving overall skin quality.

Additionally, Dermamelan Intimate is specifically formulated to treat pigmentation in delicate areas, such as the bikini line, underarms, and intimate regions.

Both Cosmelan and Dermamelan utilize a three-step process to target pigmentation at its source:

1. Pre-Treatment Skin Preparation (4-6 Weeks at Home) – A prescribed skin prep home-care routine is used before the in-clinic treatment to condition the skin, regulate melanin production, and enhance the effectiveness of the depigmenting process. This step ensures better penetration and faster results.

2. In-Clinic Mask Application – A professional-strength depigmenting mask is applied and left on for 4-6 hours(depending on the skin type and severity of pigmentation).

3. At-Home Maintenance Regimen – A customized skincare routine continues to regulate melanin production, preventing pigmentation from returning.

This process blocks the enzyme tyrosinase, responsible for melanin production, leading to progressive fading of dark spots while stimulating collagen renewal and skin regeneration.

  • Cosmelan – Ideal for mild to moderate pigmentation, melasma, and sun damage.
  • Dermamelan – A more intensive treatment for severe pigmentation and resistant melasma.
  • Dermamelan Intimate – Designed for hyperpigmentation in intimate areas, underarms, and inner thighs.

Cosmelan, Dermamelan, and Dermamelan Intimate can be used on:

  • Face – Treats melasma, sunspots, acne marks, and uneven skin tone.
  • Bikini Area & Underarms (Dermamelan Intimate) – Lightens and evens skin tone in sensitive areas.

This treatment is suitable for all skin types.

  • Clinically Proven to Reduce Pigmentation – Effectively fades melasma, sun damage, and PIH.
  • Regulates Melanin Production – Prevents future pigmentation formation.
  • Brightens & Evens Skin Tone – Promotes a radiant, uniform complexion.
  • Stimulates Collagen & Cell Renewal – Improves skin texture and reduces fine lines.
  • Safe for All Skin Types – Works on both fair and darker skin tones.
  • Long-Lasting Results – A comprehensive treatment with permanent reduction in pigmentation when combined with maintenance.

With proper aftercare, results can last for years, making this one of the most effective depigmentation solutions available.

To ensure optimal results and prevent pigmentation from returning, it is essential to follow strict aftercare:

  • Prescribed Home-Care Routine – Follow the recommended skincare regimen for 6-12 months to maintain results and regulate melanin production.
  • SPF Protection – ApplyÂSPF 50+ every 2 hours, even indoors, to prevent UV-induced pigmentation recurrence.
  • Sun Exposure & Holidays – If you have an upcoming holiday, ensure it is bookedÂat least 4 weeks after your Cosmelan/Dermamelan treatment
  • Wear SPF every 2 hours religiously.
  • Use wide-brimmed hats & sunglasses for additional protection.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure & heat (beaches, saunas, extreme temperatures).
  • Makeup Restrictions – No makeup for at least 1-2 weeks, and ideally avoid it for a few weeks post-treatment. Applying makeup too soon can make the skin look worse, crusty, and flaky as it goes through the peeling phase.
  • Exercise & Sweat – No activities that cause sweating until the skin has fully healed (approximately 4-6 weeks).
  • No high-intensity workouts, swimming, or sauna use.
  • Light exercise (such as 10k steps per day) is allowed, as long as you don’t sweat.
  • Facial Waxing & Threading –No waxing or threading 2 weeks before the treatment. After treatment, avoid waxing for the next 6 months (you may tweeze instead).
  • Botox & Fillers –Wait at least 2 weeks before having Botox or dermal fillers. Ideally, avoid it for 6 months after the treatment to allow the skin to fully regenerate.
  • Harsh Skincare Products – Avoid AHAs, BHAs, retinol, exfoliants, and strong active ingredients until advised by your practitioner.
  • Hydration & Skin Support – Keep the skin well-hydrated to support healing and reduce peeling.

Following these aftercare steps ensures a smooth recovery, long-term pigmentation control, and a brighter, even skin tone.

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women

  • Individuals with active skin infections or extreme sensitivity

  • Those prone to keloid scars (2 or more on the body)

  • Eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis – We cannot treat from the waist up. If experiencing a flare-up, treatment must be delayed for 3 months as Cosmelan can trigger a reaction. In some cases, an anti-inflammatory approach may be recommended.

  • Kidney disease and blood disorders – Must be under control for at least 6 months before treatment.

  • Cold sores (Herpes Simplex Virus) – If cold sores occur frequently (one after another), we do not treat. If cold sores appear only occasionally, treatment can be done 2 weeks after the last outbreak. However, Cosmelan is highly stimulating and could trigger a flare-up. No Acyclovir should be taken during the Cosmelan treatment.

  • Surgery – Must wait at least 6 months after any surgery anywhere on the body before undergoing treatment.

  • Patients currently using strong exfoliating treatments (e.g., Accutane) – Treatment must be delayed until the appropriate skin recovery period has passed.

A thorough consultation will be conducted to assess suitability and ensure a safe and effective treatment experience.

Pre-Treatment Skin Preparation (4-6 Weeks at Home) – A prescribed skin prep home-care routine is used before the in-clinic treatment to condition the skin

The in-clinic procedure takes approximately 45-60 minutes and includes:

  • Professional application of the Cosmelan or Dermamelan mask
  • Home-care instructions and product recommendations

For best results:

  • Initial peeling and skin renewal occur within the first 7-10 days.
  • Full results develop over 4-8 weeks as pigmentation fades.
  • Ongoing maintenance is required for long-term benefits.

Most clients see a 70-95% reduction in pigmentation after one treatment, with continuous improvements over time.

At our clinic, we prioritize patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction. Led by Dr. Alexa Balan, a GDC-registered dentist with a passion for aesthetic excellence, we use premium products and advanced techniques to achieve natural, long-lasting results. Your treatment will be carefully planned to enhance your features while maintaining facial harmony and expression.
